Includes Ball's reference subject files, 1920-1942, on costs in dyeing; costs in hosiery, woolen and cotton mills; and information on design, organization and construction of dye houses and cotton, knitting, hosiery, worsted, and woolen mills. Material is mostly printed articles with some handwritten notes. Also contains a syllabus and notes for a course of lectures, 1921, on textile mill management for managers from Lockwood, Greene & Co. Collection also includes lecture outlines, course notes, correspondence and articles on textile mill management; incorporating, financing and organizing a corporation or manufacturing plant; design and layout of mills; and planning, scheduling, cost accounting, etc., for textile mills. Information dates from 1906-ca. 1950.

Ball graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1906 and soon after became an instructor of mechanical drawing at the Lowell Textile School. In 1929 and 1930 he did advanced study at MIT in textile analysis. By 1945 he had become Professor of Textile Engineering and department head at Lowell.
